Salt of the Earth

Last Sabbath, we learned that for salt to be effective in food, it must be mixed into the food.  Salt is of no value simply sitting aloof in a salt shaker.  Salt preserves food and it makes it taste better, but only if it is intermingled with the food.  Jesus said to his faithful followers, "You are the Salt of the earth." (Matthew 5:13)  In another words, we are called to mix in with the world, to be a salt of Godly influence, love and help to those we meet and know.  As Adventist Christians, we are called not to isolate ourselves, but to mingle and befriend our lost neighbors, former Christians, and the like.

But you might be thinking, exactly how can I be salt in northern Colorado?  Perhaps you are afraid that a seeker of truth may ask you a question about God that you cannot answer.  You don't want to look silly or stumped.  Perhaps you can't think of who to mingle with, since all of your friends are Adventist.  We Adventists like to hang out together.  Perhaps you don't have confidence or don't know how to make friends with non-believers.  Perhaps you don't even care to involve yourself in personal evangelism.  Or, you may have some other reason for not feeling comfortable about being 'salt' in this world.  If that's you, I invite you to join us this Sabbath. For, as usual, God's Word has some encouraging truth as you seek to salt the earth with God's love and grace.  See you on Sabbath, and bring a friend!
